What does fostering a dog involve?

When you foster, you agree to take a homeless dog into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, either for a predetermined period of time or until the dog is adopted. Pits and Giggles Rescue has two primary types of foster homes; puppy fosters and mama fosters. Our puppy fosters generally have their pups in their home for two to three weeks. During this time they work on potty training, socialization, and fun to the max. Our mama fosters are more like a recovery spa. Our mamas get lots of snuggling, lots of love, and lots of rest. Our mama fosters are special people because they enjoy their foster for a term of a month or more as her milk dries and she is ready for spay and adoption. However, the mama fosters don’t have to work around teething puppies so that’s a definite plus!

Why does PGR need foster homes?

We don’t have a shelter. Our maternity ward is designed to hold mama dogs and their babies only until they are weaned. Without foster homes we could not do the work of rescuing any dogs at all!

Why should I foster a dog?

Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re:

  • freeing up a spot so our rescue can take in another dog.

  • giving your foster dog the time she needs to be ready for adoption.

  • socializing the dog to a home environment and possibly getting her used to being around other pets and different types of people.

How do I sign up to foster a dog?

We take a short break every summer to give our volunteers a rest. Our foster application can be found here.
